The Hellenic Centre for Research and Conservation for Archaeological Textiles ARTEX, with its new structure organized the scientific workshop ARTEX: Research and promotion of archaeological textiles in Greece on October 1, 2016 at the premises of the ICOM Hellenic Committee in Athens. The aim of the workshop was to present the contribution and work of ARTEX in the research of archaeological textiles in Greece through scientific lectures on recent research projects of Fellows, Members and collaborators of the Centre. An additional aim was to highlight the field of ​​textile archeology, which has recently experienced a dynamic growth, and to create new partnerships.

In the exhibition space were thematic stations accompanying the rich lecture program, staffed by students of the ARTEX team. The audience could study closely, see and touch raw materials for manufacturing textiles and dyes, tablet woven bands, ropes, twine and cords, yarns and threads, etc. People attended, also, a small demonstration of a knitting machine used for cords and analyzed the color sample of Maria Grigoriou. At the same time, books of fellows and collaborators from the collection of ARTEX, as well as past issues of the Arachne Journal and sousplats and bags of ARTEX. The workshop was supported throughout by the tasty dishes of Smaragdi Lambrinou, while communication sponsors were the radio stations ERT and  Athens 984.

The organizers of the event wish everybody had a pleasant and creative experience, thank all the speakers and friends of ARTEX for their participation and their valuable help and welcome the new ARTEX members with the promise of new actions in the near future!
